I’ve always had a love affair with Ancient history; Egypt, Greece, Rome – there’s something so fantastical about looking back at ancient civilisations.
Somehow, in my mind these histories were always intertwined with fiction. Perhaps it’s because it was always connected to belief in ancient gods and their tales or perhaps it’s that we’re so far removed from this way of life now – either way – the true reality of this Ancient civilisation hit when was wandering around the ruins of Pompeii.
It sounds cliche, but you can truly feel every ounce of history in this vast excavation.
To see and touch intricate mosaics and the hand lettered writing on ancient shop fronts once buried in meters of Volcanic Ash is pretty incomprehensible – so I’ll just let the photographs speak for themselves.
Needless to say, if you’re ever in Naples or Sorrento – I highly recommend a visit. If you’ve ever been to Pompeii, let me know your favourite part in the comments below.
